A gentle routine for the pairs that go everywhere with you. Start with the maker’s care instructions, then keep these basics in mind.

01 / THE ROUTINE

Clean gently.
Dry patiently.

Before you start: a soft brush, a clean cloth, and a cleaner suitable for your pair.

  1. Take it back to basics.

    Remove the laces. Brush off dry, loose dirt before adding moisture. Follow the care label for removable insoles.

  2. Test a small spot first.

    Try your chosen cleaner on a hidden area and let it dry. Check for color transfer or changes in texture before continuing.

  3. Work a little at a time.

    Use the method for your material below. Avoid soaking the shoe, and wipe away residue with a clean cloth.

  4. Let air do the rest.

    Reshape gently with plain, unprinted paper if needed. Air-dry fully away from radiators and direct sunlight before wearing.

A different touch.

SMOOTH & STRUCTURED

Finished leather

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth and a cleaner intended for finished leather. Wipe gently and avoid harsh scrubbing.

SOFT & TEXTURED

Suede & nubuck

Start dry with a suede brush and light strokes. Use only products suited to suede or nubuck; water can mark the surface.

LIGHT & BREATHABLE

Mesh & knit

Use a soft brush and a material-safe cleaner. Work gently so fibers keep their shape, and avoid saturating the upper.

Mixed materials or a special finish? Follow the most delicate material’s instructions. Ask the manufacturer about anything you’re unsure of.

Can I put my sneakers in the washing machine?

Only if the manufacturer explicitly says that your pair is machine-washable. Heat, soaking, and agitation can affect adhesives, finishes, and shape. Gentle hand-cleaning gives you more control.

How often should I clean them?

Brush away loose dirt after wear and tackle marks before they settle. Give your pair a deeper clean when it needs one, rather than repeatedly wetting an already clean shoe.

What’s the best way to store a pair?

Make sure they’re fully dry first. Choose a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and leave enough ventilation for moisture to escape.
